Wintersfold Woods and Pitch Hill 11th March 2014

Only Bob and me for this ride. Having checked out Wintersfold Woods over the weekend I was keen to put a ride together which included some of the interesting trails I found.

Starting with a killer climb that we didn't actually need to do as I took the wrong trail option (sorry Bob), the route took a while to get into it's stride. Logging had trashed several of the trails and having ridden the devastation caused by the forestry works we eventually found the trail again and the ride could actually start properly.

An excellent twisty decent with berms and jumps took us to a section of white water rapids where a stream had overflowed onto the bridleway.

The climb back up the hill started off as reasonably gentle, albeit quite long, but then turned into a very technical climb with running water rocks and roots, this made for an interesting ascent.

After a bit more faffing about and what seemed to be lots more climbing, we took another technical trail back down. This included a very very steep section of decent, plus plenty of steps and drop offs to keep us on our toes.

After one more big climb it was the run back to Peaslake via Rad Lane and Church Run.

Just under 8 miles in over 2 hours gives an idea of the terrain, probably some of the most technically demanding trails we have ridden and the uphill seemed to go on forever. Thoroughly enjoyable though.

There is some video footage, but I won't be able to edit until Sunday night at earliest, I will update when it's done.

We didn't quite follow the planned route.

Planned route

Actual route, which did vary a bit.
